  • Being a native Tar Heel, I miss lots of Southern foods, especially barbecue from Red Bridge’s BBQ Lodge in Shelby, NC.  A chopped tray, all meat, brown meat, extra sauce with hush puppies.  Their sweet tea also comes in small “mini-pitchers.”  Every time I go home, there is always a family meal at Bridge’s.

The two places locally in New England that cure my swine fever are Goody Cole’s in Brentwood, N.H. and Blue Ribbon BBQ in Arlington. Goody Cole’s does an amazing job of traditional-style barbecue.  Their vinegar sauce is as good as you’re gonna get in New England.

Blue Ribbon does a great job as well but they’re a little less authentic.  Goody Cole’s has better sweet tea and they’ve also got the best slogans on their sign board – “I like pork butts and I cannot lie.”

The best biscuits I’ve ever had North of Virginia are at Fresh Local, which just moved from Newington to Portsmouth, N.H. until October 17.  Their biscuits and gravy is one of those dishes that just makes you say “Godd*mn, Godd*mn” like you’re Samuel L. Jackson.

Josh and MIchelle, the proprietors use local ingredients, nearly exclusively.  All the eggs in the restaurant come form their own chickens.  They also had Portsmouth’s only food truck for awhile.

  • "Goody's wings were among the very best I've ever had, supplying a good balance of smoke, heat and other flavors that hold a summit at the ever-elusive crispy skin."        ~Gary-Pigtrip.net

  • ~AWESOME!! We love your food.:

We have eaten at Goody's several times and recommended them to friends and our customers that are waiting for service. EVERYONE we have sent there calls us to say how good the food is and to thank us for the tip. This place is not fancy dinning!! This is a casual place where you can relax, be comfortable, eat with your fingers and not look like a dork! The ribs and chicken combo is our favorite meal. Tender, moist, and the greatest, most unique smoked flavor! They have the best selection of dipping sauces I've ever seen. From sweet & mild to firehouse hot. Thanks Goody's, for all the great meals. We'll be back. Wayne, Mike, & Tim from Reynolds... and friends/customers Jim & Marsha! 3-09
  •       The Brisket Chili that Laura and I brought to her cousin Beth and fiance Steve's place on Saturday (along with the Pig Out pack - we had 6 for dinner thank you) was to die for. Ribs excellent as usual as was the chicken and pulled pork. But if you haven't had the Chili - do it for your self! :)...Hammond
  • mmmmmmm Brisket Chili with cheese and onions, i could eat it three times a day! ~M.Johnson

  • I have NEVER had BBQ food this delicious.  I don't live locally, I'm about an hour away and I happened to be in the area, I am so glad someone I just happened to ask "where can I get a good lunch?" talked me into going to this place, I was going to go to WENDYS!  The thought of almost missing out on the BEST brisket I have EVER had (although a fan of Wendys) now makes me cringe.  I will definitely drive up the hour to have this again.

If you're from the Boston area and you like Redbones, picture that only 100 times better food  :o)  Completely worth the trip, and on a nice sunny day they have outdoor seating
